The JonBenét Ramsey Murder: America's Most Infamous Cold Case

On December 26, 1996, six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in the basement of her family's Boulder, Colorado home. Nearly 30 years later, her murder remains unsolved.

THE DISCOVERY: Patsy Ramsey found a ransom note demanding $118,000 (the exact amount of John's bonus). JonBenét's body was found 8 hours later in the basement wine cellar.

THE EVIDENCE:

• Unidentified male DNA found under fingernails and in clothing
• No forced entry, no footprints in snow
• Ransom note written on Patsy's notepad with Patsy's pen
• DNA has not matched anyone in any database

THE GRAND JURY: In 1999, the grand jury voted to indict both parents. The DA refused to prosecute. Documents unsealed in 2013 revealed the vote.

2008: New DNA testing exonerated the Ramseys based on unidentified male DNA.

Patsy Ramsey died of cancer in 2006 without knowing who killed her daughter.
